The Research Data Management Organiser (RDMO) offers all scientists a suitable tool for collaboratively creating data management plans. With this open-source software, the necessary steps can be taken into account before a project even begins, and the data management plans created can be updated throughout the entire project duration.
In order to further advance the development of RDMO as software and its content, and to adapt it to current circumstances, the RDMO Hackathon took place for the third time on August 11 and 12, 2025.
Organized by UA Ruhr, 19 participants from institutions across Germany met at TU Dortmund University to work together on use cases and improvements of this tool.
In intensive group work, the participants developed solutions for their ideas and problems. Through direct exchange between content workers and programmers, the content requirements for further development were reviewed in dialogue for technical feasibility and implementation could begin immediately. In addition, participants discussed fundamental changes to the tool in a larger group.
At the end of the hackathon, the groups presented their results, made arrangements for further work, and decided that there will be a fourth RDMO hackathon.
Additional information: RDMO is a tool for creating data management plans, i.e., plans for handling research data in a research project. More
