Training courses
RDM Curriculum of the UA Ruhr
The Research Data Management Curriculum of the University Alliance Ruhr offers regular basic courses as well as advanced trainings on RDM for various disciplines in both German and English.
Regardless of whether you are a researcher at Ruhr University Bochum, TU Dortmund, or University of Duisburg-Essen - all training courses are open to you.
You will receive the RDM badge for attending one basic training course and two events from the advanced training courses. Therefore, send us the collected certificates of attendance for the three events.
If you have any questions about the RDM curriculum and other training programmes, please feel free to contact us at any time!

In addition to the modules in the RDM curriculum, the team of Research Data Services offers further training courses and refers to other helpful training programmes:
As part of the NRW-wide Tag der Forschungsdaten 2024, we are offering a basic lecture (in german) on research data management:
Research data is the basis for scientific progress and is essential for publications. In your day-to-day research, you have probably already experienced important data for your publication suddenly being untraceable, available in different versions or even accidentally overwritten.
Avoiding such situations is one of the many aspects of organised research data management (RDM). A well-organised RDM helps you (significantly) to secure your work in the long term.
This presentation will give you a brief overview of the most important aspects of RDM:
- Data structure and organisation
- Meta data and documentation
- Publication and archiving
You will also receive tips on tools that will make it easier for you to handle research data in your day-to-day work.
Researchers will present their research results at the Faculty of Medicine's FoRUM conference on 13.11.2024
Workshops are planned:
about Workshop III:
Research Data Management for practice: from planning to implementation
Well-structured and carefully planned research data management is essential for researchers in the medical field. In this workshop, you will be introduced to the requirements of relevant funding organisations and standards for comprehensible and FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) documentation of your research data. In addition, solution approaches will be presented that can support your plans for data security and data protection. Additionally, you will gain insights into the tools and services that RUB offers to support its researchers.
- Advantages of well-structured research data management
- Requirements of relevant funding organisations (e.g. DFG, EU, BMBF)
- Importance and implementation of the FAIR principles
- Data security and data protection (DSGVO, anonymisation and pseudonymisation)
- Helpful RDM tools and services at RUB (e.g. for publishing and archiving data; training, counselling)
The Research Academy Ruhr (RAR) is the cross-location platform of the University Alliance (UA) Ruhr to support researchers on their career path within and beyond academic research. It offers a divers range of workshops on profile building and career planning for PostDocs. Among other things, the events of the RDM curriculum are also integrated here.
