Guidelines and principles relating to the handling of research data and the research process

Here, you will find an overview of various guidelines and principles of RUB and other important stakeholders.

Guidelines for Research Data Management of RUB (in English)

Resolution of the rectorate of Ruhr University Bochum from January 2018; english version from April 2023

The guidelines explain how research data is processed at RUB during its data life cycle in order to ensure traceability and access to research data. Both the "Principles for the Handling of Research Data“ of the Alliance of German Science Organisations and the recommendations of the DFG are taken into account.

These guidelines apply to all research data generated at RUB. They ensure that the research process is protected and that data is only made available to the public after consultation with and approval by the researchers.


Guidelines for Safeguarding Good Scientific Practice  at RUB (in English)

Resolution of the rectorate and the senate of Ruhr University Bochum from July 2022

The guidelines are intended to ensure good scientific practice and regulate the procedure in the event of scientific misconduct.

The guidelines are based on the DFG's Code of Conduct "Guidelines for safeguarding good research practice“

The Policy addresses the following fields of action:

  • Open Educational Resources: open access to educational material
  • Open Access: unrestricted access to scientific literature
  • Open Research Data: disclosure of scientific data and materials for verification, secondary utilisation, and quality assurance

Ethical Principles for Cooperation Outside the EU

In order to promote international exchange, RUB supports compliance with important principles which form the basis for scientific integrity, respect for human rights and interaction between science and society in the spirit of academic freedom.
