Tag der Forschungsdaten in NRW Research Data Day

With the annual action day for researchers in North Rhine-Westphalia, which has been taking place since 2021, the state initiative for research data management fdm.nrw and the universities of North Rhine-Westphalia want to raise awareness of the aspects involved in handling research data and draw attention to current developments.
The Research Data Day is based on a joint morning program as well as individual afternoon programs organized by universities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Program 2025

2025 will be sporty with the motto

FAIR Data - FAIR Play: Just a matter of line-up

đź“… Save-the-Date: Tuesday, 18. November 2025

In sports, line-up and fairness play important roles, whether in team sports, sprinting, weightlifting, etc.

This also applies to research, which is why this year's program, with its sporty motto, is based on the starting conditions for FAIR handling of research data.

Coordinated by the State Initiative for Research Data Management (fdm.nrw), the morning session will begin with a panel discussion featuring representatives from the NFDI. The discussion will focus on opportunities for participation in the NFDI and the use of NFDI services.

The afternoon program is organized individually by the many NRW locations.

The complete overview of this NRW-wide program can be found here:

The Ruhr University is also participating again:

Introduction in FAIR Research Data management

In this online lecture, participants will have the opportunity to learn about research data management (RDM) and the FAIR principles and gain an overview of the most important aspects of RDM.

Kick-off of the RUB RDM network

With this kick-off event for the RDM network at RUB, the RDS team aims to engage in dialogue with various RDM stakeholders on campus. The event will not only discuss the framework conditions for cooperation within the network, but also present RUB's central RDM services and infrastructures for research data.

Program 2024 – Into the Data Garden - Let your research bloom!

With good care and the right tools, a garden can be made to blossom. Similarly, data that is to develop to its full potential and bear fruit requires a lot of care and the right tools. Structured research data management offers the necessary support for data maintenance with a variety of practices and tools.

The motto 'Into the Data Garden – Let your research bloom!' was a recurring theme throughout the diverse program. The day began with exciting online presentations, which were coordinated and moderated by the State Initiative for Research Data Management – fdm.nrw.

As every year, the afternoon program was organized by the many NRW universities.
- RUB opened its doors in 2024 with an interesting digital program:

Prof. Dr. Achim von Keudell

FAIR data in interdisciplinary plasma science, the CRC 1316

SFB spokesperson Prof Dr von Keudell gives a look behind the scenes of the CRC 1316 and explains how FAIR research data is created in his project through organised research data management.

The INF project in CRC 1316 aims to sensitise the CRC's scientists to data storage and to contribute to well-structured research data management. In addition working groups have been formed in coordination with the Plasma Physics Section of the German Physical Society to develop metadata standards for the individual scientific areas of the CRC 1316.  The presentation will illustrate the various aspects of the activities of the CRC 1316 with regard to research data management.
