Where can research data be stored at RUB? What infrastructure is available? Which solutions are suitable for different research projects?

Thirty participants addressed these and other questions at the third meeting of the RUB RDM Network meeting on June 10, 2026. The online meeting brought together researchers, data stewards, and staff from the technical, infrastructure, and academic support departments to exchange experiences and discuss challenges related to data storage.

Following a brief overview of current developments in research data management at RUB, the program began with a collaborative group exercise. In the case study „Dr. Lena Hoffmann's Data Storage Chaos“, participants worked together in small groups to develop solutions for a typical scenario from everyday research life. They discussed various storage options and challenges in order to formulate concrete recommendations for the storage of research data.

In the second part of the meeting, selected storage solutions available to RUB staff were presented. These included the Research Data Storage, the university cloud of North Rhine-Westphalia Sciebo, RDM platform of North Rhine-Westphalia Coscine , and RUB's research data repository ReSeeD. The subsequent discussions made it clear that data storage requirements vary greatly depending on the academic discipline, data type, and project context. At the same time, however, it also became apparent that many challenges are interdisciplinary in nature and that the exchange of practical experiences offers significant added value. The next meeting of the RDM Network will take place on September 22, 2026 at 2 pm - 4 pm and will focus on the topic of Electronic Lab Notebooks, ELNs. – Registration: https://eveeno.com/289913093
